Kalhana’s Rajatarangini, composed in the twelfth century, is the earliest surviving historical chronicle of Kashmir and a classic of Sanskrit narrative poetry. Blending recorded history with literary imagination, it recounts the lives and reigns of Kashmir’s rulers across eight books, or tarangas.
This acclaimed English translation by Ranjit Sitaram Pandit was first published in 1935 and includes a foreword by Jawaharlal Nehru. The volume also contains scholarly appendices, a bibliography and an index.
