The largest number of poems that comprise Lover’s Gift came from ‘Balaka (1916) and Kshanika (1900)’, two radically different works. The rest came from ‘Chitra, Smaran, Kalpana, Kheya and others’. Four poems in ‘Lover’s Gift’ have been translated by contemporaries of Tagore. Devendranath Sen (1855-1920) translated no. 21, Satyendranath Datta (1882-1922) no. 31 & 53 and Dwijendralal Roy (1863-1913) no. 50.
