Description

‘Lover’s Gift’ consisting of sixty poems was first published in 1918 along with ’Crossing’. Mostly written in the first person, it lights up the different aspects of love. This profound love arches over child, woman, season, even a road. The poet’s love is all pervasive.

‘Lover’s Gift’ consisting of sixty poems was first published in 1918 along with ’Crossing’. Mostly written in the first person, it lights up the different aspects of love. This profound love arches over child, woman, season, even a road. The poet’s love is all pervasive.

The largest number of poems that comprise Lover’s Gift came from ‘Balaka (1916) and Kshanika (1900)’, two radically different works. The rest came from ‘Chitra, Smaran, Kalpana, Kheya and others’. Four poems in ‘Lover’s Gift’ have been translated by contemporaries of Tagore. Devendranath Sen (1855-1920) translated no. 21, Satyendranath Datta (1882-1922) no. 31 & 53 and Dwijendralal Roy (1863-1913) no. 50.
