Three men feel seedy in their rooms in London. They decide to get some fresh air, exercise, and quiet, going up the Thames on a boat. Each new chapter in their journey has comic surprises for them as well as for the reader.
Three men, George, Harris and the author, feel seedy in their rooms in London and get quite nervous about it. They decide to get some fresh air, exercise, and quiet, going up the Thames on a boat. The fox terrier, Montmorency, reluctantly accompanies them. Nothing goes seriously wrong on the trip, but nothing goes very much right either.
All the four passengers are moody, temperamental, and accident-prone. Each new chapter in their journey has comic surprises for them as well as for the reader, so that when the four, overcome by incessant rain, decide to call it off at Pangbourne, two days short of the planned fortnight, and take the train to Paddington, it is the reader who feels cheated out of two more days of entertainment.
