The description of the embassy of the author to the kingdom of Ava in Burma. The author was appointed plenipotentiary by the governor general and authorize to deal with the government on behalf of the British India government. He was also asked to take cognizance of the conduct of the British Nationals trading or residing in these areas. The author embarked from Calcutta on the 21st of Feb,1795 and completed his voyage on the 26th of Nov.1796. The author has recorded, in this book, all that he saw and experienced. The book is a mine of information on Burma and its people. The author describes the people, the religion, their custom, their family life, the crops they grow, the methods of cultivation, the king and his court, the politics and external relations etc. This book is a reprint of the 1800 edition. The book has many illustrations and a map of Burma.
