Description

Said to have been written sometime in the 4th century AD, the 'Kama Sutra' of Vatsayayana is much more than a mere description of exotic sexual practices. While attempting to cover the entire gamut of man/woman relationships, it also deals with subjects like furnishing the house of seducing other men's wives. Written in the style of a scientific manual, the book offers a view of sexuality absolutely untinged by guilt depression, shame or sense of sin.

The 'Kama Sutra' was first translated into English in 1883 by Sir Richard Burton, the famous explorer. The text began to gain popularity all over the world only in the 1960s. The present selection is from this authoritative translation, and is vividly interspersed with beautiful illustrations of Indian miniature paintings collected from museums and private sources.
