Description

A veteran recreates the 13-day war that saw the birth of a new nation - Bangladesh in 1971.

One thousand five hundred soldiers of the Indian Army lost their lives and another four thousand were wounded in the war fought in the winter of 1971, in what was then East Pakistan, to create a new nation called Bangladesh. The war ended in a total victory for India, when nearly one lakh Pakistani soldiers surrendered to the Indian Army on the sixteenth of December that year. It was by far the most glorious moment in Indian military history, one which dramatically changed the geo-political scenario of South Asia.

Yet very little has so far been written about those magnificent men in olive greens. This work is a fictional narrative based on author's own experiences in the war. It captures the sights and sounds of a glorious fortnight - tank pennants fluttering in the wind amidst the dust and fury of the battle, the gleam of the bayonets and the echo of the battle-cry as the infantrymen charged, the thunder of the guns as a barrage was laid, and a legend is born.
