Description

Sri Gnanananda shunned publicity and discouraged all speculation about his age but intelligent conjectures in the light of Swami's occasional remarks or references placed it at 160 years at the time of 'Siddhi' according to his close disciples. His physical appearance was for all practical purposes deceptive.

He travelled widely all over India, Nepal, Burma and Ceylon after spending several years of penance in the Himalayas. According to his disciples, he could recall memories about the land of rhinos in Assam or the tidal waves in the Iravathi and the jungles in Kadirgamam in Sri Lanka.......

Recalling his first meeting with Sri Gnanananda, Swami Abhishiktananda, A French monk, in his Book "The Guru and the Disciple - Gnanananda, a Sage from the East", points out the similarity between the true Christian experience and genuine Vedantic experience.

COMMENTS:

Sadguru Gnanananda is a personage of great spiritual eminence, widely travelled in this country, he settled towards the end of his life in the Tapovanam which he founded and were he instructed his numerous disciples in the several facets of Vedantic lore in a language that was at once simple and sublime.
= BHAVAN’S JOURNAL 18 January 1976

The Sage’s teachings are in the old Hindu tradition, but adapted to modern times and needs. They are nothing if not pragmatic and practical.
= INDIAN EXPRESS 21st September 1974

Many have sought spiritual guidance from Swami Gnanananda Giri of Tapovanam. Like Bhagwan Ramana Maharishi, the Swami of Tapovanam too had a circle of great devotees who swear by his spiritual eminence.
