Description
Alokeranjan's poetry is full of surprises, even shocks; many times we are startled at anomalous juxtapositions, the import of which we only later begin to descry.
His is no poetic language in a hallowed vein; part of his maturation as a poet called for a resolute distancing from the canons established earlier by Rabindranath Tagore and discovering a medium of expression suited to his insights as a poet in the contemporary world.
Alokeranjan's readership amongst Bengalis has found itself challenged by the uncompromising courage with which he faces issues confronting society today. These are universal themes: Since 1970 he has been living in body and spirit in two continents, and taken it as a cardinal part of his mission to transmit literary culture in both directions.
