First published in 1817 this work by a British Scholar gives an account of Hindu religion, it's philosophy and rituals. It critically evaluates the popular superstitions which are inextricably tied with Hinduism. This consist in daily ablutions connected with the worship of a person's guardian deity, or of the stone called Shalgram, service paid to a person's Devin mentor, the worship of different deities on special occasions, recitation of different scriptures, pilgrimage duties to deceased ancestors, funeral rites and offerings.
