Dahan has received three National Awards in 1998 in the category of Best Feature film, best screenplay (Rltuparno Ghosh) and Best Actresses (Indranl Halder & Rituparna Sengupta Jointly) other than Fipresci (International critics Award) and other Prestigious Awards. The film has been invited by all international film festivals like karlovy very international film festival, Regus London film festival, world Cinema, Berlin International film Festival, Internationales Forun des Jungen Films, Sen Franclsco International film Festival, ect.

2. The movie is based on the novel of same name by Suchitra Bhattacharya and the book was inspired from a real life incident in which a female Journalist Ananya Chatterjee saved a housewife from public harassment. Advised repeatedly to forget the incident and look the other way, Ananya stayed the course in her fight for Justice and even returned a bravery award from the police.

On her way home the newly wed Romita is molested by five men. The only one who has the courage to help is the young female teacher Jhinuk. Because of that she becomes a heroine and is on all papers' front page. But the page is turning: As not only the police but also neighbours begin to ask embarrassing questions the two women are eventually intimidated and the five man are getting free with the help of corruption and male domination.
