Description

Hinduism is the oldest of living religions, yet as vigorous today as ever. In fact, it is more than a religion. It is a way of life and the culture of the people of India as a whole. Based on the teachings of ancient sages and scriptures like Vedas and Upanishads, it is a set of beliefs and traditions which evolved in Indian sub-continent over a period of more than 5000 years.

Hinduism focuses on the Creator and his creation, human beings and their salvation. God, the creator is not only infinite but has infinite manifestations. Hinduism expects every person to act according to his/her Dharma, the path of spiritual disciple, and acquire purity of soul by leading a righteous life. It believes that soul reincarnates until God Realization is attained. Till then one goes through the cycle of death and re-births. The quality of re-birth is determined by the law of Karma, the moral conduct displayed in previous life. The ultimate goal of existence is to reach Moksha, liberation from the cycle of re-births and death.

“OM” is the most important symbol in Hindu religion. It signifies God Almighty. It means “That which has no Beginning or End”.

Hinduism is all-embracing and liberal. It is religion of freedom. It advocates religious tolerance and fellow-feeling towards followers of other religions. It respects all faiths.

Let’s know Hinduism deals with all important aspects of Hinduism: Ancient scriptures, the Trinity (Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh), basic doctrines, beliefs and traditions, rituals and festivals. Colourful illustrations have made the script lively and interesting.

It is a book that will be useful not only to Hindus but also to others who may be interested in knowing the essence of Hinduism.
