Description

We are going to study the book called the Mahabharata, one of the greatest books in the world. To do this usefully, we must begin by seeing what sort of book it is that we are going to study, and what sort of mind we are to bring to the reading of it. For the mind of the student has a great deal to do with understanding the book.

This book is based on notes of lectures delivered by Dr. Besant, in the first decade of this century on Mahabharata.

Mahabharata is the story of the Aryan race in India some five thousand years ago and includes an account of the epic war between Pandavas and Kauravas, two groups descended from king Bharata, from whom India takes its name Bharat.

Dr. Besant describes Mahabharata as a great teacher of ethics and of philosophy and it is also history.
