Description
Mankind's religious future is obscure, yet one thing can be foreseen. The Sikh religion and the Scripture of the Adi Granth will have something of special value to say to the rest of the world.
This present venture in the form of this book on Sikhism in English augurs well. It opens with a chapter on Religion, giving its definition and describing its chief characteristics. It is followed by the second, Salient Features of Sikh Religion which also gives the title to the book and discuses some prominent aspects of Sikhism. The subsequent chapters no 3 to 12 are in a way separate articles dealing with some of its basic concepts, institutions, traditions, and contributions, such as its secular and liberal attitude, universal message and cosmopolitan approach; its system of apostleship and tradition of martyrdom; its capital city, central place of worship and sacred Scriptures; its concepts of Vairag and Anurag, Miri and Piri. Though they appear separate, yet are interconnect4ed and go a long way in elucidating the author's central theme regarding the salient features of Sikh religion.
