This anthology of four-volume series of Medieval Indian literature has two parts: Surveys of all languages and selections from three languages - Assamese, Bengali and Dogri.
The medieval age in Indian history which roughly covers the period 1100-1800 forms a vital fountainhead of Indian cultural heritage. This work in three volumes is an attempt to present a historical and critical survey of the literature of twenty-one languages written during this period. It also presents selection from nearly 700 authors rendered into English by over 200 translators.
The selections from Assamese, Bengali and Dogri literatures include excerpts from major works written during this period.
EDITOR: Dr. K Ayyappa Paniker (b.1930), the Chief Editor of this anthology is a major modern Indian poet, writing in Malayalam. He obtained his Ph.D from Indiana University and did post-doctoral research at Yale and Harvard.
He has authored and edited several books and anthologies in English, and has rendered in Malayalam several works. He is a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi and other awards.
