Description

The Hindustan Times Leadership Summit is an international forum for world leaders to share their vision for a future world. The annual summit is designed to create an environment for debate and discussion as key figures from across the globe present their ideas. Eminent leaders bring to the platform the dreams, concerns and aspirations of five billion people to make the world a more harmonious place to live in.

At the conclusion of the third year of the summit, what was brought to the fore was more than just a blueprint for Building a better Future-the theme for the HT Leadership Summit 2005. Held in New Delhi in November, speakers included Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Indian National Congress President Sonia Gandhi, former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, National Security Adviser to the Government of Afghanistan Dr Zalmay Rassoul, former US Secretary of Defense William S Cohen and former US Senator John Edwards among others.

Over two days of intense discussions, issues of conflict management in various parts of the world, the increasing role of corporate social responsibility and the demands on celebrities to be role models, were laid threadbare. From these two days of brainstorming, arises this book.

REVIEWS

We cannot build a better future with old ways of thinking. The challenge before any government is to allow those who can and wish to run to do so, even as we help those who are unable to walk to be able to do so.
-Dr Manmohans Singh
Prime Minister of India

The real question is the terms of engagement in a globalized economy. Today, the terms are heavily weighed in favour of developed countries. This must change.
-P Chidambaram
Finance Minister of India

We should never lose sight of that other picture-the poor others who suffer hunger and deprivation, who want to see their children get the best. A substandard education under corrupt or inept systems only poisons the future.
-Ehud Barak
Former Prime Minister of Israel
