Shri Jnandev or Janeshwar was born in 1275, and ended his worldly life by entering into a terminal samadhi in an underground vault at Alandi near Pune in 1296. In his brief life this prodigy who was an initiate Nath Siddha produced 'The Bhavarthadipika' popularly known as 'The Jnaneshvari', which is his magnum opus, 'The Anubhavamrut', 'Changdev Pasashti', 'Haripath' and several lyrics of devotion and reflection as well as of celebration of mystical self-realization.
TRANSLATOR: Dilip Chitre, translator of this volume, has won Sahitya Akademi Award for his Marathi poetry and the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize. He writes poetry in Marathi and English and translates either way. He has also directed an award-winning film and exhibited paintings.
