Chachnamah Retold - An Account of the Arab Conquest of Sindh

Chachnamah Retold presents Gobind Khushalani’s accessible modern retelling of the Chachnamah, the medieval Persian narrative traditionally associated with the Arab conquest of Sindh under Muhammad bin Qasim.

Based upon Mirza Kalichbeg Fredunbeg’s English translation, Khushalani recasts the narrative in clear contemporary language while incorporating relevant historical background from India and the Caliphate. The account follows the rise of Chach, the reign and defeat of Rai Dahar, Muhammad bin Qasim’s campaigns, the fall of Alor and the events surrounding Qasim’s death.

The volume also contains the introduction to the first English edition written by Rishi Dayaram Gidumal in 1900, together with annexures covering the ruling houses and communities mentioned in the Chachnamah and the caliphs of the period. A bibliography, glossary of names and places, illustrations and index complete the book.
