Description

This book is based on audio-tapes and transcripts of an unusual interaction at Antony, Paris, France between Desikachar and students and teachers of Yoga. On this occasion talks on certain central concepts were combined with some practice sessions, at which some fundamental aspects of yoga practice were set forward.

Yoga is perhaps the oldest and most enduring system of psychology. Its place is ensured in the future of psychotherapy, religious practice and holistic medicine - all of which, across many cultures, are currently evolving towards a synthesis. As the means for this synthesis, yoga, while being a psychology of great antiquity, is at the same time the psychology of the future.

This book represents Desikachar's translation of this theoretical understanding of meditation into concrete practice. While there are many textbooks on yoga and meditation, very few capture the immediacy of the teaching and learning process. The central theme that emerges from Desikachar's non-intrusive approach is that no two practitioners have the same meditative experience. His method accommodates the cultural and psychological diversity of present-day students and practitioners of yoga, without compromising the ancient origins of the yoga tradition.
