Description
Today, there is a growing and nature awareness that personal health and happiness are inextricably entwined. Ironically, increasing health consciousness has kept pace with an increase in stress and bodily disorders. The resultant quest for health has more than ever before focused the attention of the west on the Indian System of Yoga.
In its land of birth, yoga is enjoying a newfound respect, this time from a generation looking beyond yoga as good exercise. The young, the healthy, the not-so-young and the not-so-healthy, even the patient and the doctor are acknowledging, that understanding how yoga works means understanding how the body and the mind can work better. How to help your body and mind to work better for you through yoga, is what I am setting out to do. This book therefore, is primarily meant to introduce people to the art of yoga and to its therapeutic effects on medical disorders. However, one should not forget that the primary aim of yoga is to achieve self-realization and that the medical benefits are additional effects.
This book gives the main steps of the asanas to support and supplement the initial training given by the yoga teacher. Colours have been added to the asanas or postures to familiarize people with the widespread effects of each asana on various organs and systems as well as on the mind. Colours will also facilitate the readers to visualize organs and glands involved in a particular asana, which will enable him/ her to custom design a programme of asanas suited to the problem or disorder of the individual.
Pill popping enthusiasts are urged to restrain their impulse to resort to antibiotics, analgesics and tranquilizers and to adapt instead a sound yoga programme for a long life, with a young body, an alert mind and calm relaxed nerves.
