Description
This book is an expanded version of a Lecture on Music. The book is in 3 parts, and addresses itself to a cultured and cultivated audience with or without commitment to music.
One of the great difficulties in talking or writing about music is the problem of terminology. Music has a six thousand year history, but the present terminology, used in languages like English, is good only to cover a much shorter and limited period, and adequate hardly for one system
Few scholars have been able to see our fantastic heritage of music, spread widely over time and space, the totality of it all as an indivisible whole, as an integral part of a single universal heritage - the heritage of Man. We need to develop terminology so that we can use words and a language which could be of universal significance.
