Description
Crossing Borders, Stretching Boudaries presents the Bose-Einstein Lectures on Science, Technology and Environment, which were held in India in the years 1997-2000 under the auspices of the German Embassy and the Federation of Indo-German Societies. They cross the borders of conventional sciences as well as narrow nationalisms, and stretch the boundaries’ of knowledge. The title commemorates the interaction between the eminent Indian physicist Satyendra Nath Bose and Albert Einstein in the 1920s, which led to the theory of Bose-Einstein condensation, an important contribution to subatomic physics, which was proven by experiments only 70 years later.
The topics covered range from physics and astronomy to science policy in the twenty-first century, global research and development cooperation, the compatibility of environmental protection with economic development, new findings in the exploration of outer space. They touch the borders of science in its relationship with religion and its limitation by ethics.
