Description
This process obliterated the distributional patterns of Muslim population in India. Migration of Muslims was not even from all parts of the country. There were pockets from where their migration was complete, for example East Panjab and Matsya Union of Rajasthan. There were pockets from where the migration of Muslims was marginal, for example, Mewat, Marwar and the southern states. The extent of migration of people was directly proportional t the intensity of rioting before and after the partition.
Muslims during the last 50 years have been seeking place in the mainstream of the national life. The direction of their development, economic, social and educational, has been the same as that of the majority community but there has been time lag in the pace of this development. There has been perceptible difference between the pace of economic, social and educational development of Muslims in North and South India. North bore the brunt of rioting even much after 1947 and Jabalpur, Ahmedabad, Moradabad, Firozabad, Allahabad and many other cities witnessed severe communal clashes. These happenings, no doubt, weakened their economic base because of the destruction of the infrastructure assiduously created.
While celebrating the 50th anniversary of our independence, serious introspection is needed to understand the place of Muslims in the national scenario. This volume is aimed at providing insight into some of the important issues raised from time to time. Space is the point in reference in any geographical study, particularly, over which the phenomena vary.
