Description

This Advanced Jiwan Oxford Dictionary has been compiled for the use of those readers whose mother tongue is Punjabi or Hindi. While compiling this comprehensive dictionary we have kept in mind this fact that all prevalent English words, their derivatives, idioms and proverbs should also be included.

The compilors first took the simple word (sometimes called a root) labeling its part of speech, gave its English meaning. Then pronunciation in Punjabi and meanings in Punjabi are given. After that in the similar way pronunciation in Hindi and meanings in Hindi are added. This arrangment has utilized the extra space and the dictionary has become more solid and condensed.

THE SALIENT FEATURES OF THIS DICTIONARY ARE AS UNDER:-

All the grammatical abbreviations are inscribed in italics in order to differentiate these from other words.

Forms of verbs, degrees of adjectives and adverbs have also been incorporated.

Such words comprising the same spellings but having different meanings, have been shown as different entries and numbers 1,2,3 etc have been assigned to them.

For the guidance of students and readers, common useful vocabulary is also comprehended in section B.

Each page starts with new entry.

This dictionary contains a comprehensive list of literary, scientific and conversational English words. But we do not hesitate to say that there might have remained many over sights and short comings.
