Brilliant parliamentarian, captivating orator and equally endowed with a facile pen, Anna's charisma was such even his adversaries loved him.
This regional leader blossomed into a national figure. He eventually gave up his demand for a separate Dravida Nadu in the wake of the Chinese aggression. In the 1967 General Elections his party unseated the well-entrenched ruling Congress Party and Anna became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
