The novel is set in Calcutta in the turbulent seventies, when the city was in a state of political eruption. Aditya Ray, established writer and intellectual, accidentally witnesses a murder by the police in the chiaroscuro of early dawn.
The incident shakes Aditya out of his cocooned existence. Although he runs for his life from the spot of the murder, his conscience gets the better of him. In another four days, his ostensibly detached lifestyle is threatened by a sense of social responsibility.
SAHANA GHOSH (b 1964) is trained as an economist at JNU and Delhi School of Economics. She is a corporate executive by profession and a translator by passion.
