Laghukaumudī of Varadarāja is an important introductory work in the Pāṇinian tradition of Sanskrit grammar. Varadarāja’s text is an abridgment of Bhaṭṭoji Dīkṣita’s Siddhāntakaumudī, which reorganized Pāṇini’s grammatical rules by subject rather than retaining their original sequence in the Aṣṭādhyāyī.

This edition presents James R. Ballantyne’s English translation together with commentary, references and an index. Ballantyne explains grammatical terminology and processes as they first occur and supplies cross-references to rules involved in the formation of individual Sanskrit words.
