Description

This book will tell you about some exciting and important archaeological sites in different parts of India.

Our country is full of hundreds of archaeological sites of different kinds and of different times. An archaeological site is a place where there are remains of the past-things like ruins of old buildings, bones, pottery and tools. Some of these things may be found on the surface of the ground, but many more lie buried underground and have to be excavated or dug out by archaeologists. If you visit an archaeological site, you may see the ruins of a house where a family lived hundreds of years ago. You might find a piece of old pottery made long ago by a potter. You might turn it over in your hands, feel its texture and admire its colours. Archaeologists have a special word that they use for things made by human beings-the word is artifact (also spelt as artifact).
