Description
Does the Dalit context need a Jesus who is both human and divine? The Sinless Jesus and the Dalits represents an honest and vigorous attempt to answer this question in a jargon-free and lucid language.
It is a fact that the overemphasis on one dimension to the near or total exclusion of the other has only jeopardized the very mission at the end. Liberative movements which emphasize only one dimension tend to end up on a negative note, acquiring in the process demeaning and enslaving proportions. An important reason, if not the only one, for such a development is to be sought in the inadequate understanding and appropriation of the inspiring model. It is the contention of this book that any project for human liberation can lead to durable results only if it springs from the totality of the person of Jesus and the Jesus event.
In The Sinless Jesus and the Dalits, Father Sebastian explains how the sinless condition of Jesus, which does not dilute his human condition, provides an appropriate paradigm for an authentic commitment to the liberation of the Dalits. He also shows how the Dalit context needs, for a properly authentic and integral liberation, a Jesus who is not only fully human but also fully divine.
