Description

This work is the result of contributions and discussions with regard to pedagogy, methodology and contents of a human rights education programme for creating a culture conducive to respect for human rights.

The National Human Rights Commission urged upon the University Grants Commission, the National Council of Educational Research and Training, and other establishments to introduce Human Rights Education in universities and schools. The programme of teaching HRE as a subject which was started by universities and schools a few years ago, needs to be evaluated. It is in this context that an attempt was made, for the first time, to go into a detailed analysis of HRE. The book is the outcome of a two-day national workshop attended by a large number of academics, social activists, members of the National Human Rights Commission and State Human Rights Commissions, and National Commission and State Human Rights Commissions, and National Commission for Women.

In Human Rights Education (HRE), the Point of reference has to be human rights violation. It should also be recognized that human rights activists and intellectuals must never be apologetic in exposing human rights violations.

The book is indispensable for those who are engaged in HRE programme, as also for policy makers and human rights activists and groups.
