THE TRANSLATOR:
VISHWANATH S NARAVANE took his doctorate from Allahabad University where he taught Philosophy for nearly two decades. He was Professor and Chairman of the Philosophy Department at the University of Poona for a few years. As Visiting Professor at several colleges and universities in U. S. A., and as a guest speaker in many countries, he lectured on Indian art, history, literature and mythology, besides philosophy and religion. Among his publications are 'Modern Indian Thought: A Philosophical Study, The Elephant and the Lotus: Essays in Philosophy and Culture' and monographs on Tagore, Coomaraswamy, Premchand and Sarojini Naidu, besides 'Best Stories from the Indian classics' published by Roli Books.
