Frances Pritchett is Associate Professor of Modern Indian Languages at Columbia University, where she teaches Urdu and Hindi. In addition to translating, she has studied traditional prose genres like the Hindi/Urdu qissa and the Urdu dastan. She has also written about the classical Urdu ghazal - her most recent book is Nets of Awareness, Urdu Poetry and its Critics.
