This carries translation of The Bhagavad-Gita with the Sanatsujatiya and the Anugita by Kashinath Trimbak Telang. The translation is as close and literal a rendering as possible of the Gita, as interpreted by the commentators Sankaracarya, Sridharasvamin, and Madhusudana Sarasvati. REFERENCE has also been frequently made to the commentary of Ramanujacarya, and to that of Nilakantha. Some of the notes point out parallelisms existing between Gita and other works, principally the Upanishads and the Buddhist Dhammapada and Sutta Nipata. SANATSUJATIYA forms a part of that same movement in the religious history of ancient India of which the Gita is another embodiment. Anugita is a part of the numerous episodes of the Mahabharata and like Sanstsujatiya appears for the first time in English language. HISTORICAL information touching the author of this work, the time at which it was composed and even the place it occupies in literature remain debatable because according to Professor Max Muller, history, in the ordinary sense of the word, is almost unknown in Indian literature. An eminent French philosopher, Cousin, points out that this great deficiency in Sanskrit literature is due, in no inconsiderable measure, to the doctrines propounded in the Bhagavad-Gita itself.
