Considered to be one of the greatest Russian poets and the founder of modern Russian literature, Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin pioneered the use of vernacular speech in his poems, at the age of fifteen. He became committed to social reform and emerged as a spokesman for literary radicals for whom he was exiled to southern Russia.
Pushkin died at the young age of thirty seven when he was mortally wounded in a duel.
