Special features:
Baazi set the tone for the wave of crime films that were to come out of Bollywood, during the 50s and the 60s. This second offering from the Navketan banner, was the debut directorial film for Guru Dutt, who went on to become one of Hindi cinema’s premier directors.
The film was also a launching pad for several talents who went on to make a name for themselves – Dev Anand the ideal actor for crime thrillers like ‘Jaal’, ‘Pocketmaar’, ‘C. I. D’, ‘Nau Do Gyarah’, ‘Kaala Bazaar’, and ‘Jaali Note’, to name a few, lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi, choreographer Zohra Sehgal, playback singer Geeta Roy (later known as Geeta Dutt), the comedian Johny Walker.
Two songs from this film stand out as hits, “Tadbeer se bigdi hui taqdeer bana le” a ghazal set to a western beat and the svelte, seductive number, “Suno gajar kya gaaye” both by Geeta Dutt.
