Description

The three modern Indian plays brought together here are established classics, all written around the mid 1960s.

Girish Karnad's Tughlaq was originally written in Kannada and explores the psyche of a medieval monarch. Karnad himself has done the present English translation.

Badal Sircar's Evam Indrajit was originally written in Bengali and uses myths to examine some of the dilemmas of the Indian middle class. It is translated into English here by Girish Karnad.

Vijay Tendulkar's Silence! The Court is in Session was first written in Marathi and looks at the violence and sexual compulsion that lie beneath respectable facades. The translation in this volume is by Priya Agarkar.
