Description

A collection of papers presented at a National Seminar focussing on the Indian writers' problems, characteristics of Indian English writing and problems of translation of Indian literature into English.

Indian writing in English up to the Gandhian era reflects the efforts of an ancient land to rediscover itself. There was a definite attempt to retain the Indian identity. Later Gandhi exercised a profound influence on the writings of all the Indian languages. The papers included in this volume are from celebrated writers and scholars like Mulk Raj Anand, Gangadhar Gadgil, S K Desai, Keki Daruwalla, Shyamala Narayan, David Kerr, and Harish Narang who have thought deeply and intensively about the topic of discussion. The second part of this volume contains poems by Jayanta Mahapatra, Keki Daruwalla, Keshav Malik, Prabhanjan K Mishra and Agha Shahid.
