This is a look back at Emergency period when democracy in this country eclipsed on June 26, 1975 . After the end of emergency, a large number of books, special supplements of newspapers, articles, memories etc. has appeared on this subject and some writers have effectively narrated their experiences, information and thoughts. Still none of these could present an all-round picture of this unique freedom struggle for want of comprehensive collection of source material.
Instantaneous and separate writings had their own limitations. Still some states published organized provincial reports. Naturally they were confined to the State level. After a lapse of a couple of years the whole subject came to be State level. After a lapse of a couple of years the whole subject came to be State level. After a lapse of a couple of years the whole subject came to be considered outdated from the professional publishers point of view. But from the national point of view a big lacuna remained. The emergency and the atrocities during its period were discussed off and on, but a comprehensive perspective on the Herculean efforts made to liberate the country from that deadly calamity, the sufferings and sacrifices of the freedom fighters and their final victory was not available.
The present work is an attempt to fill that void. It is the product of the facile pens of established authors who have relied upon a perceptive analysis of a huge mass of source material, collected from thousands of people who had actually participated in the struggle, by a team of scholars. Hopefully it will satisfy the discerning reader.
