Fifteen years of violence and turbulence in Jammu & Kashmir have extolled a very heavy price from the state. Not only did it lead to the death of about forty thousand people, including terrorists civilians and soldiers, it also set back the province severely in most fields Has it turned the corner at fast? Like many times before in its long and ancient history, the only region in the sub-continent where this can be traced back continuously for over two millennia, there have indeed been many ups and downs. Glorious achievements have given way to despair and agony accompanied by deepest suffering. We believe that the worst it now indeed behind us. The future opens up all the possibilities of a glorious new beginning.
The book is an outcome of a meeting of an eminent group of people from the state and outside in Jammu in April 2005. It was a partnership between practitioners and theorists, trying to pool their ideas and thoughts together for a common cause. The Book presents a brief glimpse into some of the thoughts and ideas and some factual inputs into the present state of affairs in the province.
