Morning Ragas — A Set of 4 CDs

Morning Ragas is an exceptional four-CD collection from Music Today devoted to the rich tradition of Hindustani ragas associated with the hours from pre-dawn through late morning.

Across four volumes, the collection brings together some of India's most distinguished classical vocalists and instrumentalists, including Rajan & Sajan Mishra, Pandit Jasraj, Mallikarjun Mansur, Shruti Sadolikar, Padma Talwalkar, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Ustad Shahid Parvez and Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia.

The progression of ragas captures the changing character of the morning — from the contemplative and devotional atmosphere surrounding dawn to the increasingly luminous character of the later morning. Vocal performances are complemented by sitar, sarod and flute, making the collection an unusually broad introduction to both the repertoire and performance traditions of Hindustani classical music.
