Description
Volume I of the Encyclopaedia of Indian Philosophies establishes the scope and bibliographic foundation of this major scholarly reference series. Issued in two bound sections, it identifies the primary sources examined throughout the subsequent volumes and provides an extensive guide to secondary literature for further study of Indian philosophy.
Compiled by Karl H. Potter, the bibliography lists Sanskrit and Tamil works in approximate chronological order. It records known editions and translations into European languages and, when no published edition is known, identifies the locations of surviving manuscripts. It also includes books and scholarly articles concerning classical texts, philosophical schools and broader traditions of Indian thought. Together, the two sections contain approximately 10,000 citations.
