Description

This compilation puts together for the first time in English a selection of fiction,
non-fiction and poetry showcasing the broad sweep of writing of one of the most versatile and innovative Tamil writers.

One of the most versatile and innovative of Tamil writers, Sundara Ramaswamy whose long literary career has spanned fifty-odd years, has written short stories, novels, poetry and criticism.

While his early stories focus on a changing reality, offering glimpses into the daily lives of people, his later writ rings reflect the violent contrasts in the external world that both disturbingly parallel and reveal the bitter contradictions of the inner world. Known for their technical brilliance, his stories, underscored by compassion and humor, work at various levels, throwing up unexpected changes and disquieting endings. His poetry published under the name of Pasuvayya uses imagery and word-order in fresh innovative ways.

Well-known editor and translator Lakshmi Holmstrom has put together for the first time in English a selection of his fiction, non-fiction and poetry that showcases the broad sweep of his writing.
