Description

This work considers the partition of India in 1947 to have been the most disastrous of political solutions for the subcontinent. Tracing past history, the author shows how the Indian leaders were manipulated by the British into seeing it as the only solution.

The harsh experience of the last fifty years must be used to put away the political weakness, which has brought India, Pakistan and Bangladesh to the brink of disintegration. A fresh solution has to be sought in the form of a confederation. A provocative book on the historical problems, which have acquired new dimensions in the contemporary political scene.

MEDIA COMMENTS:

The Rediscovery of India is a highly personal history that explores the origins of communalism and argues for a confederal reconstruction of the subcontinent. The Times Literary Supplement

No book in recent times has been published on the subject of India with more insight, understanding, clear-headedness and is more intellectually honest than Ansar Hussain's The Rediscovery of India. It is a book of the century.- The Round Table (London)

Khan makes an eloquent plea to all three states of the subcontinent to put in place appropriate confederal arrangements for the greater good of their billion-plus people. No Muslim from the subcontinent after Maulana Abul Kalam Azad has pleaded his case so much elegance.- Seminar
