Description
From the Foreword by Secretary of Lalit Kala Akademi:
One of the major activities of the Lalit Kala Akademi is to hold a National Exhibition of Art in order to showcase the various trends of Contemporary Indian art. The unique feature of this exhibition is that it represents various artistic aspects like paintings, sculptures, graphics, photographs, ceramics, installations etc. and is open to artists all over the country.
The 45th National Exhibition of Art is going to be held at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Society, Guwahati. Over the last few years the Akademi has been holding national Exhibition of Art in various states of India. However, the decision to hold the 45th National Exhibition of Art at Guwahati is an important turning point in the history of the Akademi. Guwahati being the capital of Assam is also a link state between all the north eastern states.
Along with the National Exhibition of Art the Lalit Kala Akademi has also decided to hold for the first time a special exhibition organized for the north east artists, art lovers, intellectuals and common people. This Regional Focus Exhibition titled Cultural Identities: Reflection and Representation in the Contemporary Art of North-East will try to focus the distinctive characteristics of the life of north east in its entire spectrum. The Akademi is also holding a multiple media workshop at the same Centre from 11th of December, 2002 and a One Day Symposium on 12th December, 2002. The interesting feature, of all these three programmes, is to tie them in one knot which is Cultural identities of the north east.
