Our economy being largely land based, it becomes absolutely essential for us to know the capabilties and potentialities of these resources belonging to each of the regions of the country. Moreover, with the increasing pressure of population on land, judicious approach has to made in order to ensure propoer utilisation of resources without disturbing the ecological balance. It is with this objective in mind, detail monitoring and mapping of land resources has become imperative.

This atals encompasses twelve multi-coloured paltes, each showing a specialized theme of land resources at the scale of 1:6 M accompanied by insets (Scale 1: 18M), wherever needed. Judicious use of colours, screens and symbols has been made in compilation and printing of the plates. Modern cartographic techniques have been adopted to make the maps meaningful and attractive to the users. A special feature of the atlas is the introduction of analytical notes supplemented by useful statistical tables for each plate for a clearer appraisal of the themes.
