Description

The stories in this collection are about ordinary women overcoming, coping with, or triumphing over extraordinary circumstances. Ordinariness is a universal concept.

Aren’t we all ordinary to begin with? Women specially, are often marginalized and side-tracked for being ordinary, knowing fully well that there is no saying when and how the ordinary will evolve into the unique and the extraordinary. What the women in these stories have in common is the intense desire to dream on to make the ordinary business of living more enriching and extraordinary.

The author is grateful to her friend, Sanjit Narwekar for suggesting the title of the book when he heard that the book had thirteen stores. The story goes that at one time in Great Britain bakers would give on extra loaf as bonus to those who bought a dozen loaves at a time. So thirteen came to be associated with the baker’s community in Great Britain and hence the name Baker’s Dozen.
