Science and mysticism are based on entirely different belief systems and, therefore, it might appear rather incongruous that the two together should be invoked for illuminating the essence of Hindu philosophy. The steady progress of science in search of the ultimates has resulted in major shifts in consciousness in our understanding of the external universe. While these paradigms of science have enriched the development of Western philosophy, they have had negligible influence on Hindu philosophy because of their entirely different origins.
There are countless number of books on Hindu philosophy written by eminent scholars as also inspiring accounts of the ultimates given by great sages. However, the profundity of the theme has not obviated the need for its repetition in various ways.
In this volume we examine what new insights the paradigms of science can offer for a deeper understanding of some of the key concepts of the different Vedic schools of philosophy. These can be viewed as the points of congruence between science and mysticism. We believe the novelty of this approach is consistent with the scientific ethos of our times.
