The stories present in this volume is a representative collection of Mitra's short stories. The socio-economic milieu that he generally focuses upon is the urban middle class.

The metropolis is the ethos that provides the images and motifs which surface repeatedly in his stories. Ambition, despair, the desire for meaningful relationships, and such other compelling, often obsessive reasons, propel individuals into unexpected situations. The stories present the writer's perceptive and sensitive treatment of the dilemmas of life.
