An account of the most important events in Milarepa's spiritual life expressed in this selection of poems translated from the Tibetan.
Milarepa was born in Tibet in 1052. After being wronged in childhood he learnt the black arts and used them to destroy his enemies. Releasing that he was making Karma for himself, he went in search of a teacher, and eventually found Marpa who was one of the greatest spiritual masters of all time.
Milrepa persevered despite appalling hardships until Marpa eventually gave him his full teaching. Later, Milarepa spent many years in a cave, living on nettles, before returning to the world of men and collecting many followers. In the songs of Milarepa an account of the most important events in his spiritual life are expressed, the accents of which range from the lyrical to the mystic and high philosophic.
The selection in the present book has been carefully made to show every facet of his teaching.
