Description

This anthology of thirty-one representative stories by famous authors celebrates the hundredth year of the Oriya Short Story.

The first Oriya short story to be published was Rebati by Fakir Mohan Senapati in 1898. It marked the emergence of a new literary form out of a long tradition of folklore and oral literature. The expansive oral style was soon displaced by a tight narrative which addressed a literate public.

The stories brought together in this volume will give the reader an insight into the evolution of Oriya short fiction. The editors with their brilliant translation have retained the original flavor and style of each story in full measure to achieve a collection that is a worthy tribute to the great masters of Oriya literature.
