Description

A reprint of a 1981 classic carrying 13 color plates from the finest art collections representing varied schools.

The story of Krishna is a fascinating tale. He was born, as the Puranas and many other religious texts relate, as an incarnation of the God Vishnu in human form in the Vrishni family of Mathura to foster good and annihilate evil. Divine and human qualities are inextricably blended in him.

Some scholars, on the basis of Krishna's color, consider Krishna to be an aboriginal or non-Aryan chief. But nothing can be determined on the basis of color. Arjuna and Vedavyasa were also of dark color. Neither of them can be considered to be of non-Aryan stock.

Each plate included in this collection is accompanied by a detailed description and commentary with its source.

Indian art and literature owe an inestimable debt to the Legend of the Blue God.
